MATHMET Member Organizations
The LNE (Laboratoire National de Métrologie et d’Essais) is committed to excellence in measurement and testing and to progress in quality and safety for the benefit of industries. The department ‘Mathematics and Statistics’, which is composed of six scientists and engineers, provides statistical tools and training sessions for data analysis and evaluation of measurement uncertainties.
The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is the UK’s National Measurement Institute and is a world-leading centre of excellence in developing and applying the most accurate measurement standards, science and technology. NPL’s Mathematics and Modelling for Metrology group contains 12 staff, several of whom are regarded as international leaders in uncertainty evaluation and mathematical modelling for metrology applications.
The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is the national institute for science and technology and is the highest technical authority of the Federal Republic of Germany for the field of metrology and certain sectors of safety engineering. PTB ́s department of ‘Mathematical modelling and data analysis consists of working groups on modelling and simulation as well as on data analysis and uncertainty evaluation.
SP Sveriges Tekniska Forskningsinstitut AB (SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden AB) is owned by RISE Research Institutes of Sweden Holding AB under the Ministry of Industry. SP is the national institute for technical evaluation, research, testing, certification, metrology and calibration and is working closely with large and small companies, universities, institutes of technology and other organisations.
The Institute of Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina acts as National Metrology Institute of B&H. It comprises three main sectors responsible for the fields of industrial metrology, scientific metrology and legal metrology. The Institute was a member of the EMRP and has actively participated in four JRP in the field of energy and environment. This trend continued through membership in the EMPIR where there are six currently running projects in various fields.
IPQ (Instituto Português da Qualidade) as the Portuguese National Metrology Laboratory (LNM) has all of the national standards of the measurement units of the International System (SI) to guarantee the traceability of measurements. LNM ensures the implementation, development and maintenance of the national primary standards of measurement units and the traceability chain to SI, assuring and managing the metrology system. In the field of scientific metrology, the LNM has accompanied the main technical and scientific developments through the participation in European projects (i-MERA-Plus, EMRP, EMPIR).
The Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca Metrologica (INRIM) is the Italian institute for research in metrology under the Ministry of Education, University and Research. With the tasks of primary metrology institute, INRIM is the focus of scientific metrology in Italy. INRIM carries out studies and researches on the realization of primary standards for the basic and derived units of the International System of units (SI), assures the maintenance of such standards and their international comparison. Its main research and development areas are in fundamental physics, nanoscience and metrology for quality of life.
